Our suggestions for additional travel.
Chobe National Park, Botswana
Just a little over an hour’s drive from the famous Victoria Falls, Chobe Park features the glistening, blue Chobe River and a vast bush brimming with wildlife. We can recommend the Chobe Safari Lodge for accommodation and game drives. Consider booking a night or two of camping in the park.
Kruger National Park, South Africa
Kruger Park is a great option for those with less time, but wanting to get a true safari experience versus visiting a game reserve. You can arrange a fully arranged safari tour (we might recommend Siyabona) or you can fly to Johannesburg or Nelspruit, rent a car, and drive yourself! There are plenty of hotel options surrounding the park.
The Karoo, South Africa
The greater Karoo region is home to the curious and the placid. In Oudtshoorn you can visit Ostrich farms, explore caves, or enjoy local lamb. You can explore Tankwa Karoo National Park and book a stay at Elandsberg Wilderness Camp. Or visit the Karoo Desert Botanical Garden and stay at the unique Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve.
The Southern Coast of South Africa
If you drive from Cape Town, you can access some of the most serene spots in the country. Hike at Tsitsikamma National Park, kayak or go whale watching in Hermanus, book a cliffside BnB in Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, or Wilderness, or even venture further to Elephant Addo National Park for safari.
The Drakensberg, South Africa
The Drakensberg, Dutch for ‘The Dragons’ Mountains’, is a range of dramatic crests with a hypnotic green padding. It is a great destination for hikers, or those seeking a mountain retreat. It also falls partially inside the borders of Lesotho, a landlocked nation within South Africa, where more beautiful nature and scenery awaits.
Johannesburg, South Africa
Johannesburg is home to warm, wonderful people, and you will find a variety of great historical and cultural experiences including: the Apartheid Museum, Constitution Hill, the Cradle of Mankind, the Hector Pieterson Museum, Mandela’s House in Soweto, and more. Worth a quick trip if you enjoy educational tourism.
